Immediately after recovering the tesseract, S.H.I.E.L.D locked it away in the volt on the hellicarrier. Later on, Agent Romanova (alias 'Black Widow') went in to lock up some weapons from a previous mission. Reacting to her presence the tesseract causes her breasts to expand to impossible proportions. It's a good thing S.H.I.E.L.D. also had some of Captain America's super solider serum locked up, or the back pain would have been immobilizing!
